double kitchen sink gets clogged up after I run water for about 30 secs
l am a single mom and know nothing of maintaining a home...l have a double
stainless steel sink and when l run water for a short period, it appears
to drain properly then after 30 secs or so the sink start to stop draining
and start filling up as well as the other sink.It drains back down very
slowly. What could be the cause and what can l do?l tried the Drano and
other stuff as well as plunging and they are not doing the trick.l never
once had a problem until my ex/bf was here for a few days to help take care of me while l was recuperating from foot surgery and then after he leftthat was when l noticed a problem every time l try to run water or do dishes.l do not know if or what he might have poured down there. It does NOT have a garbage disposal. l am renting the home and does the landlord have an obligation to fix something like that for me? Ok...what is ''rodding''?
Are any other drains having a problem such as the tub or
toilet? If so it might be the main has roots or something causing the
problem. If this is the problem the landlord should take care of it . If
it is only the sink, it sounds like grease. This is a common problem when
people pour grease down the sink. If you call the landlord to clear it &
they find grease they will probably bill you for the service. This is what
they call roding the plumber runs a snake into the clean out to clear the blockage. You can remove the trap under the sink just to make sure something is not in it. Put a pan under the trap & unscrew the big nuts that hold it in place. make sure it is clear. then reinstall it. Hope this helps
Sounds like it may be after the trap usually drain cleaner and
plunging does it. Yes your landlord should help with this because its in
the main line leaving the sink.
if it starts to back up after about 30 seconds i doubt it is a
trap problem as that time frame you will have run approx. 2to3 gallons of
water down the drain, if no other drain in the house has been affected
then the problem is in the sink drain line.most likely it is a grease
buildup, your landlord should take care of it for you in a timely fashion
if (s)he doesn't, i would contact a plumber and when you pay your rent
deduct the plumbers fee from the rent
hmmmm..The old ex boyfriend trick, eh? Are you able to
contact him? If it were grease, I would say try hot water, If it were
some food, could be anything if you remember what you ate! Or could he
have stuffed a sock in it for spite! It sounds like the trap needs to be
opened up. I would check with your landlord for help if the ex boyfriend
isn't available for questioning. The landlord will be responsible for
taking care of the house when ever anything breaks down.
the landlord should, but if not, have it rodded. no liquid
substance will remove a clog.
